ENSEMBLES

Concert Band

​The class consist of 9th-12 graders that register for band during the Spring semester. This class typically plays grade IV-V music and performs annual at the Virginia Band Directors Association Concert Assessment. This is our premier concert ensemble.

Instrumental Performance Ensemble (IPE)

​Instrumental Performance Ensemble (IPE) is our fall semester brass and woodwinds  class.  This ensemble is open to all high school band students who play a wind instrument. This ensemble performs a Fall concert and a Winter concert. They also perform at Come Home to Franklin County Christmas Festival. 

Please note, students cannot take IPE ONLY; they must be enrolled in a second semester band class in order to take this class.  It's both semesters or only spring semester.

Marching Band

Our Marching Band a fall production beginning in early summer and finishes up in early November with the Virginia Marching Band Cooperative State Championship.  This ensemble performs at numerous Saturday competitions as well as each Friday-Night Football Game Halftime.  Our marching band is consistently pushing the envelope of audience entertainment and performer skill within the marching arts activity.  Each year's show has a theme and cohesive idea that both the audience and competitive judges can enjoy and understand. Our Marching Band is open to all FCHS students and 8th graders at BFMS.

Indoor Drumline
& Winterguard

​Our Winter Indoor Ensembles compete throughout the mid-Atlantic during the winter season as a members of CIPA, CWEA, AIA, and WGI circuits.  They travel to competitions each Winter from January-March.  These ensembles are designed to help build our percussion and guard sections and to give our students another performance opportunity to show off their skills and receive more independent  instruction. Our Winter Ensembles are open to all FCHS students and 8th graders at BFMS.
